Who runs this site
Douglas Clarke, for Clarke Industries Inc., a company in British Columbia, Canada. We are not a Salt Lake company or a contractor; we publish a sourced guide and run a referral line.
Salt Lake Water Damage Advice is a free referral and information service, not a contractor. Calls go through our call-tracking line to independent local restoration companies, and we may be paid when a call qualifies. We do not do the work and do not set prices or availability.

Why this site exists
A basement full of water at night is a bad time to sort through company ads. This site puts Salt Lake City's own guidance, Utah's insurance rules and the federal health agencies in one order of steps, with every fact traceable, before it offers a phone number.
How calls are routed
- You call the number on this site. It is free and commits you to nothing.
- Our call-tracking line routes the call to an independent restoration company that serves Salt Lake City and is taking calls.
- That company answers. If you want a visit, they assess the damage and quote their own price.

Calls go through our call-tracking line to independent local restoration companies, and we may be paid when a call qualifies. We do not do the work and do not set prices or availability. The network or the company that answers may record or log calls. More on how this service works.

Where the facts come from
Federal agencies, the industry standards body, the insurance industry's research group, and Utah and local government offices and utilities:
- Triple-I (Insurance Information Institute)
- Utah Insurance Department
- IICRC
- CDC
- Salt Lake City Corporation
- U.S. EPA
- NOAA NCEI
- American Red Cross
- National Weather Service (NOAA)
- Utah Legislature
- FEMA FloodSmart (National Flood Insurance Program)
- Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities
For prices, where no official source publishes them, we compare published consumer cost guides and a trade magazine, and say that is what they are:
How facts are checked
- Each factual statement links to a numbered source with its publisher, page and date.
- We read every source directly, note disagreements, and drop claims we cannot source.
- Drafting uses AI tools; a person checks each claim against its source before publishing. The review date is in the footer.
- No reviews, ratings, testimonials or badges: we have none of our own.
Last reviewed
Every guide shows the date it was last checked against its sources. The whole site was last reviewed on October 24, 2026.
Photos
Photos are illustrations made with an AI image tool. They do not show real technicians, customers, or the companies that answer calls.
